The Internet forum www.clubrural.com is the most active of all Spain, becoming an important meeting point for professionals of the rural tourism that use this space to share doubts and concerns at first-hand about their daily struggle in the accommodation management. For this reason, this tool allows us to know first-hand what are the most concerning problems for the owners of the sector and expose it in order to get to solutions by themselves. The Top 5 of their concerns during 2015 are:
  1. Fraud, con or swindle. If in 2014 this topic was the fifth concern among owners, it places first in 2015 due to an increase in false reservations made abroad that are pretended to be paid with credit cards or checks without funds. There is also a growth in calls made by agencies or web portals that promise reservations for low season, charging for services that are not given, besides swindle in directories where they later disappear.
  2. Presence on Booking.com. While last year complains turned around high commissions charged, there has been a discussion these last months about including cancellation policies in the web site to avoid the losing of money in the face of last minute cancellations. Also, there have arisen doubts about how declaring the site commissions’ bills or the way of managing the traveler comments on it, because of false rankings or ranking by users who hadn’t made any reservation through Booking.com.
  3. Increase on rural accommodations. A lot of proprietaries have shown interest on exchanging staying in other accommodations, with the purpose of knowing other places and houses of our country, leaving their facilities to other professionals.
  4. Heating expenses. A pretty common concern regarding the beginnings of 2015 and now in autumn has been the control on cost of the heating. Due to the rise of prices in electricity, gasoil, and etc. rural accommodation’s proprietaries have shared experiences and ideas to improve the heating management, for example, installing programmable thermostats, low consumption radiators, rising up the price according to the season or charging an extra to abusive consumption.
  5. Selling, renting or changes in the accommodations’ management. In 2014 lots of proprietaries put on sale or for rent their accommodations. This is something that keeps going on this year, by personal or economic reasons, or just by the impossibility to attend the business properly. There has also been managers interested in managing more accommodations than they actually have, even if there are not of their property.
After this exposition of some of the concerns for rural hotel and rural hostel proprietaries, we have to thank ClubRural because of the great job it’s been doing in the content generation and the interaction it has been promoting among several travel agents in order to increase and improve rural tourism in Spain.
